District Task Force (DTF) Kiphire held a meeting on account of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) 2nd round and National De-worming Day (NDD) at SDO (Civil) Office Kiphire, Friday.
The meeting was chaired by SDO (Civil) Lankonsen Tsanglao and was attended by Dr. Rebecca Y Sema (DPO, RCH-UIP), Dr. Khelito (DTO), L. Kipitong Sangtam (SIS), M. Yangse (Supervisor SW) and Imnasenla Pongener (media officer NHM).
Dr. Rebecca gave an overview about IPPI and NDD and informed that IPPI 2nd round will be conducted from February 21-23.
She said the first day would focus on administering polio drops to 0-5 year olds through booth activities and the other two days on house to house visits by the medical team.
As part of NDD, Albendazole tablets would be administered to all children of 1-19 years where the schools will play a major role for distribution to 5-19 year olds and anganwadi workers to 1-4 year olds, she informed.
In the meeting performance of IPPI first round was reviewed; first round saw an achievement of 90% target which was higher than the previous year wherein 9,335 children were immunized and 10,480 houses visits were made.
Dr. Rebecca said “unfortunately, due to the current state of disturbance in the district, there may be decrease in house to house visits.
However, we will try our best to cover as many houses as possible.”
“We have assigned nurses to carry out the programme according to location for free movement. For Pungro block, we will need maximum help from other departments like education and social welfare for smooth distribution of polio drops as well as Albendazole tablets,” she added.
SDO (Civil) Lankonsen said that the administration would aid the medical team by providing security and requested all community elders, police and other departments to extend full support to carry out the programme with ease.
