NLSA conducts ‘national lok adalat’ across State

Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NLSA) on Saturday successfully conducted “national lok adalat” throughout Nagaland on traffic, bank cases, civil and criminal matters by the respective district legal services authority. 
According to NLSA, presiding judges were assisted by panel lawyers, para legal volunteers and traffic police personnel for traffic cases/bank managers and personnel in bank matters. 
It stated that a total of 707 cases were taken up and total of 448 cases were disposed, with a settlement amount of Rs. 8, 31, 173. 
NLSA has informed that next national lok adalat has been scheduled to be held on April 9 on the subject, labour and family matters/municipal matters at the entire district headquarters.
DDLSA: Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) with the assistance of the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and the District Transport Office (DTO) conducted a mobile Lok Adalat on March 12 at the DC Court Junction and 7th Mile, Dimapur. 
Lok Adalat programme was to create awareness as regards the mandatory requirement of possession of valid vehicle documents. Total documents of 400 vehicles were checked, out of which 187 were found to be defaulters.
 In this regard, the personnel of the DCP (traffic) imposed fines amounting to a total of Rs. 41,450 on the defaulting vehicles. DDLSA has been conducting such lok adalats in cooperation with the concerned authorities on regular basis as part of its legal services programme. 
Chairman DDLSA, N.Kanuo, who is also the District and Sessions Judge, Dimapur, spoke on the impact of Legal Service Authorities Act in the state and other beneficial laws on the ongoing youth camp organized by youth department of Chakhesang Baptist church Dimapur.
KDLSA: Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) under the banner of the National Lok Adalat conducted a mobile lok adalat at Peducha check gate Saturday to check on the vehicles plying the road without proper registration, insurance coverage, pollution certificate, driving licence and fitness certificate.
Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kohima highlighted the purpose of conducting the mobile lok adalat which was to ensure the safety of all the vehicle owners, the passengers as well as the pedestrians as per the provisions of law. 
She also briefed the team to be cautious and make the drivers/owners of the vehicle understand the purpose of the checking and the provisions as mandated.
KDLSA said most of the vehicles plying in National Highway 29 were found without proper documents where some vehicles were without insurance coverage, some expired insurance policy others without pollution and fitness certificate, some drivers were even driving without a license. 
Around 224 private vehicles were checked out of which 132 vehicles were without proper vehicle documents and notice of summoned were issued to the defaulters on different dates for production of proper documents by imposing a petty fine to the defaulters. Total amount deposited to the government exchequer was Rs. 26,400.
Mobile lok adalat was conducted by Chief Judicial Magistrate Kohima & Secretary KDLSA with the assistance of 9 panel lawyers, 5 traffic police personnel, 5 police personnel from the North PS and 5 police personnel from the court. The offence of driving uninsured vehicles is punishable with three months of imprisonment or fine upto Rs.1000.
