
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland, Sanjay Kumar IAS has urged all departments to be instrumental in dealing with election matters by being cooperative and proactive in adhering to election code of conduct and guidance issued by Election Commission of India (ECI).
CEO said this while highlighting the recently launched programmes- National Electoral Roll Purification (NERP) and Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) to AHODs, HODs and others at his official residence, Kohima on April 1.
According to CEO, NERP 2016 includes enrolment of all eligible citizens and removal of repeated and multiple entries, entries of dead, shifted and absent voters, correction of errors in EPIC and removal of other data errors. He said the intensive drive would be completed on or before August 31, 2016.
During the meeting, Kumar also reiterated the menace of election malpractices such as multiple entries, high percentage of unrealistic voters turn out during the polling day and high percentage of voters in the electoral rolls.
He said since the census figure has been manipulated to a great extent, thereby distortions and irregularities were found in the Electoral rolls.
This, he appealed to all sections of people particularly the church leaders and elders to play a pivotal role in sensitizing the people so that a sense of democracy prevailed in our state.
Stressing on the rampant malpractices in electoral rolls, he urged all concerned and responsible citizens to come out with their valuable suggestions and sort out the lacunae so that it could be filled up. He further said that the malpractices which have been witnessing and confronting at this juncture in our election machinery would be a big challenge for the IT department. Director, School Education, Senthang Rengma who shared his view suggested that the Special Security Forces be created in order to observe the malpractices adopted during elections and also to protect the genuine and innocent people from election evils.
Secretary, Urban Development, Ahola Those emphasized the need to streamline the under aged voters. Joint secretary, PHE, Akumla Chuba and director, Higher Education, Alempokba suggested formulating a mechanism to detect real and bogus in order to avoid malpractices.Secretary NBSE, Asano Sekhose stressed on the importance of education in transforming the election machinery. Meeting on NERP
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Nagaland, Sanjay Kumar has convened two separate meetings on National Electoral Roll Purification (NERP) on April 4 (1pm) and April 6 (11 am) at Hotel Japfu Kohim.
According to DIPR, the meetings would discuss issues pertaining to NERP 2016 programme and also the Systematic Voters’ Education & Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme.
The meeting on April 4 would comprise of- Director General of Police; Commandant, 15 IR Mahila Battalion; IG, Assam Rifles, Nagaland; Commandant, SEWAK, Nagaland; Commandant, CRPF, Nagaland; Commandant, 164 Naga Territorial Army, Jakhama; Commandant, 155 BN, BSF, Chedema; Commandant General, Home Guards & Civil Defense; Director, Rajya Sainik Board, Nagaland and Group Commander, National Cadet Corps. Presidents of various organizations like Angami Public Organization; Sumi Hoho; Ao Senden; Lotha Hoho; Chakhesang Public Organization; Pochury Hoho; Rengma Hoho; Konyak Hoho; Phom Peoples’ Council; United Sangtam Likhum Bumji; Yimchunger Tribal Council; Khiamniungan Tribal Council; Zeliangrong Baudi; Chang Khulie Setshang; Kuki Inpi and Kachari Tribal Council.
The meeting on April 6 comprise of – presidents, CANSSEA; Nagaland Civil Service Association (NCSA); Nagaland Police Service Association (NPSA); Federation of Nagaland State Engineering Services Association (FONSESA); Nagaland Agriculture Graduates Association (NAGA); Nagaland Secretariat Service Association (NSSA); All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association (ANSTA); president, Nagaland School Education Administrative Officers’ Association (NSEAOA); Nagaland Govt. Higher Secondary School Officers’ Association (NGHSSOA); Nagaland Forest Executive Staff Association (NFESA); Nagaland Social Welfare Officers’ Association (NSWOA); Nagaland Rural Development Service Association (NRDSA); Nagaland Information Public Relation Service Association (NIPReSA) and Nagaland Physical Planners’ Association (NPPA).
All the members have been requested to cooperate and attend the meeting.
