Rio graces day 2 of Aoleang festival

Second day of Aoleang festival, the Spring festival of the Konyaks, was graced by Neiphiu Rio, MP (Lok Sabha) at local ground Mon town as the chief guest, Wednesday. 
Speaking at the programme, Neiphiu Rio appreciated the youth led by Konyak Students Union for valuing the culture and traditions by organising the Aoleang feast. He also urged them to preserve and promote the unique tradition. 
Acknowledging the unity of Konyaks as exhibited in participation in the Aoleang feast, Rio said despite the district being recorded with lowest literacy rate and per capita income, the people of Mon would one day lead the Nagas’. 
On Naga issue, he said it was because of the active participation of both underground and over ground leaders, the centre has recognised “our” uniqueness and declared the Naga issue as a political issue. 
Informing that the central government led by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi was ready to offer a settlement, he urged upon the Nagas to contribute by uniting in order to bring permanent settlement.
The MP was accompanied by MLAs Kropol and Dr. Neiphriezo and advisor DUDA, LM and CP Thongwang. The occasion was attended by dignitaries from ENPO, ENSF, ENWO, 33 Assam riffle, non-Konyak officers of Mon, SP Mon Yangba Konyak, DC Mon W. Honje Konyak and MLA Pohwang Konyak.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by general secretary ENSF Honang M Jessuhu, prayer by KBBB executive secretaty Rev. M. Chemyuh and the Aoleang blessing prayer was pronounced by KBCM Pastor Nahngom.
The highlights of the day included beating of log drum beating and folk song and dances from nine constituencies, special song was presented by “Border boys band” from Wangti village.
The Aoleang feast concluded with glamorous evening session with contestants from each constituencies contesting for the title Mr. and Ms. Aoleang. The evening session was graced by SP Mon Nyangba Konyak  (NPS) as the chief guest.
