Rio inaugurates ‘Sakhrie Park’ in Kohima

Sakhrie Park- the one stop recreational point by VAST group was inaugurated by Neiphiu Rio, MP (Lok Sabha) on April 7 at AG Colony Kohima.
Speaking as the chief guest, Rio lamented that there are very few spaces in Kohima for recreational activities and stressed on the need for a city to have park.
He termed Sakhrie Park as a good example and hoped that other colonies would also follow suit by creating more recreational spaces. 
Delivering welcome address, proprietor Sakhrie Park, Viketol Sakhrie pointed out that the area of the park was earlier a garbage disposal area prone to landslide. He said to convert the area into a park was envisioned on 2009 without any help/funds from the government.
Sakhrie further pointed out that the park has been made for the young and old, families and friends for recreational activities, meditation and to have a quiet time. 
He said the park would provide people with a pleasant ambience and an alternative oasis from their busy schedules and day-to-day hassles of life.
Sakhrie said that keeping in view, the concept of the upcoming “Smart City” for the capital town, the VAST Group has envisioned possible future tie-ups with relevant departments of the state government and other agencies.
Earlier, executive Director ABCC, Dr. Atsi Dolie dedicated the park, the gathering was enthralled through “teach o Lord” by Rukuse Sakhrie and Vilone Sakhrie, greeting was delivered by AG colony Panchayat while Metevinuo Sakhrie said the vote of thanks. The programme was chaired by Pastor Town Baptist Church Dimapur, Rev. Vilodi Sakhrie.
It may be mentioned that, Sakhire Park offers facilities such as café FoodPrints, Candy cart, Teyozwu hall, kid’s play area, Barbeque (BBQ), Wheba (bonfire), air hockey, table tennis, soccer table, work out station, lockers, first aid, car parking lot (limited) and bicycle parking station.
The park also provides hiring on advance booking, while timings are from Monday to Saturday- 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday- 12 noon to 5 p.m.
