NPCC protest BJP’s action in Cong ruled states

April 15, 2016 | by admin

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) members on Thursday held a protest rally outside Congress Bhavan against what it called “undemocratic and vindictive actions” of BJP-led government at the centre against Congress-ruled states. As part of the protest, NPCC pasted posters on the wall, which read “down with NDA!! for undemocratic, vindictive and unashamed actions against duly elected Congress Govt (s)”. The Congress members also shouted slogans such as “BJP murderer of democracy”, “down with undemocratic and vindictive actions of BJP against Congress ruled states”, and “opposition-less government – absolute power, absolute corruption”.
Addressing the members at the rally, NPCC president, K Therie, alleged that from the beginning BJP had attempted to see that minorities were cornered and shattered. He, however, said that Bihar elections had shattered the moral of BJP. Thereafter, he said BJP government had gone against the constitution. Accusing BJP-led government of committing “undemocratic and vindictive actions” against Congress-ruled states, Therie alleged that the BJP after causing political imbroglio in Congress majority states of Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand attempted to topple Congress government in Assam and Manipur also.
Calling upon the people to restore the morale of the nation’s constitution and democracy, Therie said the only way to achieve this was to vote out BJP and alliance and vote for moral leadership, which could give clean, stable, strong and development oriented government. Also, speaking at the rally, Takamasa Ao, ex-MLA, stated that in cooperative federalism, the central government and state governments should engage as equal partners. However, he alleged that after BJP came to power, cooperative structure was destroyed, especially against the congress-ruled states, which he said was against the spirit of the constitution.
Takamasa opined that during UPA rule, cooperative federalism was observed and had never discriminated against opposition ruled state. He said UPA neither destabilized not used unfairness mean to topple any state government.
Ex-MLA said Congress-led UPA did not discriminate any states, adding majority of fund was allocated to Gujarat when Narendra Modi was chief minister for three terms.
Lamenting on the formation of a new government in Arunachal Pradesh and imposition of President’s Rule in Uttarakhand, which were congress majority states, Takamasa said trying to forcefully remove opposition ruled states was a fascist culture not democracy.
Further, he said Nagaland government in alliance with BJP was directly or indirectly responsible for BJP’s arbitrary and vindictive action.
Ex-candidate, Hokiye alleged that corruption started from BJP-led central government. He alleged that project for the state was not released until commission was paid.
Meanwhile, Langpha, ex-MLA highlighted “vindictive activities” of BJP government.
The protest rally programme was chaired by NPCC general secretary Jonathan Ao. Congress party representatives from various districts participated in the rally.
