Various trainings, meetings conducted for farmers across Nagaland

To promote agriculture, to increase productivity and better equip the farmers across Nagaland various trainings and meetings are organized by different departments/agencies.
Wokha: Department of Agriculture, Wokha organized a training program on oilpalm cultivation. 
Delivering keynote address, department of Agriculture deputy director, Alet Hansing briefed about the ongoing program on oilpalm cultivation under National Mission On oilseeds and Oilpalm (NMOOP) which was introduced in the year 2014. He highlighted on its cultivation and spoke on the market value of oilpalm and its benefits.
Special invitee parliamentary secretary Labour and Employment, Skill Development & Border Affairs, Mmhonlumo Kikon in his address spoke on the various ongoing plantation projects and questioned whether the plantation crops were market oriented or not. He urged the farmers to opt for crop that has less investment with more profit. He also spoke in brief about crop insurance scheme (PMEBY) and how one can be benefited through the scheme. 
Short speeches were delivered by ADC Bhandari, Orenthung Patton, P.D., DRDA, Wokha Thungbeni and P.D., ATMA, Wokha Dr. Mhonchan.
During the technical session, resource person Agriculture Officer (AO) Mhathung spoke in detail on the cultivation practices of oilpalm.  Altogether 305 farmers attended the training program.
Mangkolemba: Training cum Demonstration on summer vegetables was conducted by Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mangkolemba block, Mokokchung district at Watiyim village. 
 Resource person, Agriculture Officer (AO) BTT member, Mangkolemba block Sunep walling , stressed on seed bed preparation, weed control, weeding schedule in different crops and importance of organic farming. A.I. Mangkolemba block Onglu, A.I, focused on cultivation technique, healthy seed production and safe pest management to avoid adverse health outcome. 
BTM Mangkolemba block, Limawapangla. Lkr, spoke on health effects of high use of pesticides and the economic importance. 
Later, the programme followed demonstration at the plot. 
Altogether 28 farmers attended the training programme and seeds were distributed among the participants. 
Mokokchung: As a prophylactic measure to control loses in vegetable crops, one day training cum demonstration on insect, pest and disease management in vegetables was conducted at Longhkum village under Ongpangkong south block, ATMA Mokokchung. 
During the training programme, welcome address was delivered by Yarba from Sangpang and spoke on his personal experience regarding vegetable farming. 
Resource person from horticulture department, AHO Talimeren spoke on the general cultivation aspects of vegetable farming with special focus on soil reclamation, crop rotation, mulching and plant protection measures against pest and diseases.
Meanwhile practical training on preparation on Bordeaux mixture and its application on vegetable crop was demonstrated on the farmer’s field. 
Later, plant protection chemicals, fertilizers and vegetables seeds were distributed among the farmers. Altogether 19 vegetable farmers attended the training programme. 
In a separate programme, one day demonstration on farm layout in cardamom plantation was held on April 20 at Longkhum-Mangmetong corridor under ATMA, Ongpangkong (S) block with AHO, Imotemsu as the resource person.
During the training, resource person imparted the framers with the layout design, sticking, pit digging, treatment of rhizomes with trichogramma spp and planting of saplings. Altogether 10 farmers attended the training along with ATMA support staff.
ATMA Akuluto: Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Akuluto block, Zunheboto held Block Farmers Advisory Committee (BFAC) meeting on March 27 at SDAO office Akuluto. 
During the meeting, members were briefed on the functions and duties of BFAC by BTT convenor and SDAO Imliakum.
 In the meeting smooth functioning of ATMA, selection of SHG/CIG, training and demonstrations within the block were discussed. Altogether 12 members along with ATMA officials attended the meeting.
KVK Tuensang: One-day training cum awareness programme on protection of plant varieties and Farmers’ Rights Act (FRA) was held at CKS hall, Tuensang on April 20.
The program was sponsored by protection of plant varieties and farmers’ rights authority and ministry of agriculture, government of India.
During the programme, resource person subject matter specialist (plant protection) KVK,Tuensang,  Eliseni Tsopoe emphasized on objective and importance of plant protection and farmers’ rights. She further explained on the criteria, prerequisites of application and characteristics for distinguishing a new variety. 
Earlier the programme was chaired by farm manager, Yanger I Kichu. Altogether 51 participants from different villages attended the programme.
In another programme, KVK Tuensang conducted its 9th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting was held at CKS hall on April 16 under the chairmanship of SMS Animal Science, Sarendi Walling with District Agriculture Officer (DAO) Tuensang, L.Butang.
During the programme, L. Butang encouraged to think globally and act locally and emphasized on livestock, medicinal and aromatic plants and conservation of natural resources. 
In the programme, programme coordinator, Dr. Keviletsu Khate delivered the keynote address and gave a presentation on annual progress report 2015-2016 while annual action plan for the year 2016-2017 was presented by SMS Agronomy, Tokiho Achumi. 
The programme was attended by HOD’s of agri. and allied departments, NGO’s and officers. The annual action plan has been approved by the committee and further recommendations were given.
