Irked by deplorable road condition, LDDU serves deadline on PWD (R&B)

Pointing out that the condition of Longleng-Changtongya two-lane road has become “so deplorable” with landslide and drainage like deep gorge at various locations, the Longleng district driver’s union (LDDU) has urged the PWD (R&B) to immediately take up repairing works along the said road within three days.

In a press release, LDDU president O.Alemtetba Phom and general secretary K. Lakba Phom cautioned that if the responsible department failed to comply to their plea, the union would initiate own course of action by calling an indefinite total road blockade starting from May 11, 2016 in entire Longleng district.

The signatories stated that due to deplorable road condition, the commuters of the district especially the student community were facing untold hardship.

They said seeing the suffering of common people of the district LDDU and other organisations of Longleng district on several occasions took up road repairing works right after the “infamous road construction company” abandoned the project three years back.

However, the signatories expressed dismay that the department failed to take up road repairing even once despite several requests by different organizations of the district. They asserted that it amounted to a direct insult to the people of Longleng district. 

Meanwhile, the union has called upon the responsible elected members and other stakeholders of the district to take up the road problem issues, which the common people of the district suffered throughout the year. The union appealed for timely intervention at the earliest before the rainy season approached.
