Parliamentary secretary for PWD (Housing) Er. Levi Rengma has lamented that educated youth in Nagaland are not employable as many are not trained to handle the jobs that are available.
Speaking at the inaugural of Sendenyu Village Council Hall under Tseminyu sub-division on Saturday, Er. Levi said with the increasing number of unemployed in the state of Nagaland, it would not be possible to absorb all in government service. He pointed out that apart from government jobs, there were many avenues available to sustain and lamented that educated youth are not skilled/trained for specific jobs.
Er. Levi said the wrong concept imbedded with most of the Nagas was reflected in their dependency on government jobs, dependence on parents, lack of focus, lack of work culture and entrepreneurial spirit resulting in lost opportunities.
Citing survey conducted by the directorate of evaluation on “evaluation study on employment opportunities forgone by Nagas and employment of non-Nagas in the state of Nagaland,” he said the income level of many unskilled non-Naga employees was higher than that of many government employees in Nagaland. Er. Levi said the survey conducted found that out of 13,380 business establishment units in Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung run by Nagas and Non-Nagas the total workforce of non-Nagas are 45,815 which generate an annual income of Rs. 450.60 crores. So where is employment problem in Nagaland when we look at the figures? He asked.
He therefore urged the gathering to look beyond and inculcate dignity of work among the Nagas by focusing on work culture and entrepreneurial spirit.
Earlier, Er. Levi also appreciated the initiative for building the council hall through the contributions from various sources and by individuals.
