Confederation of Chang Students’ Union (CCSU) on Thursday informed that it has temporarily relaxed its ongoing phase-wise agitation till the end of June 2016.
“After which, the Confederation will be at its liberty to uphold and protect its legitimate rights and democratic practices,” stated a press release, CCSU president Imtichoba and speaker C.Nokching Somba.
According to CCSU, the ongoing agitation was relaxed following the intervention of Nagaland Home Minister “over the grievances faced on the proposed CCSU conference 2016 at Chendang Saddele and the resulting phase-wise agitation and the behest of Chang Khulei Setshang on the ENPO bond agreement”.
CCSU informed that the union on May 17, 2016 had a sitting with state home minister and state bureaucrats on the surfaced issue and subsequently held a consultative meeting with the ENPO on May 19, 2016.
It pointed out that CCSU conference, which was normally held in the month of January every year, was postponed till date in order to provide ample time to the peace process initiated by the state government appointed mediators.
However, CCSU said after the failure of the mediators in finding an early settlement to the already prolonged peace process and non-fulfilment to its legitimate demand, the confederation initiated its phase-wise agitation starting from May 5, 2016.
Earlier, the confederation on April 29, 2016 served a three-point ultimatum on the state government demanding immediate fulfilment on:
1) Immediate declaration on the whereabouts of the missing persons —
a) December 9, 2014 missing case of a mother and a daughter
b) April 7, 2015 missing case of Thongsomong Chang
2) Immediate fulfilment of the served memorandum dated April 5, 2016
3) Immediate revocation of revised office memorandum dated April 12, 2016, wherein Tuensang and Chendang Saddle were labelled as disputed land.
