Dimapur Police clarifies on raid

Dimapur Police said it was constrained to issue clarification in the light of condemnations received from certain quarters questioning police’s actions during the search carried out at the residence of Akashe Z. Zhimomi located at Eralibill on June 3. 
Addl. DCP & PRO clarified that the actions of the police were in conformity with the law and acted within their powers as per prescribed procedures. PRO said in its effort to secure arrest of persons, against whom non- bailable arrest warrants were issued, police can entered into the premises on specific information that if such persons were taking shelter there. As such, PRO said that the police personnel acted on the Code of Criminal Procedure US 47. 
PRO also reiterated that the actions of the police had no connection whatsoever to any matters connected to the affiliates of the subject from whose quarters these condemnations have emerged. 
Rather, PRO said it was unfortunate that certain responsible organizations without understanding the statutory provisions of the law have condemned the actions of the police that was carried out under legal sanctity.
ACAUT: ACAUT while acknowledging Dimapur police in maintaining law and order, however expressed regret over the “arbitrary raid at the residence of a respectable citizen of Dimapur without any search warrant”. 
Terming it as an unfortunate incident, ACAUT media cell in a press note said, apart from the illegality, police should realize that the action had caused undue embarrassment and mental agony to the family of Akashe Zhimomi, GB of Iralibill village. 
As a dedicated family man and a core leader in ACAUT, it said that the stigma of police raid was something which would remain as a black spot in his honourable life. 
It said that “the police top brass should humbly realise that while it may have every good intentions to bring about an ordered society, few gung-ho lower cadre officers can spoil its entire image”. 
ACAUT said it fully endorsed and support the demand of DEEHA so that it would serve as a lesson to all police force that none was above the law. 
While stating that the fragile fabric of democracy with its check and balances must be guarded at all times, ACAUT urged the custodians of law and order to be to be mindful of civil rights. 
It also said that Dimapur police should acknowledge the incident as a serious oversight on its part.
BAN: Business Association Nagas (BAN) has expressed dismay over the raid carried out at the residence of one of its member by Dimapur Police in his absence.
In a press note, BAN media cell said that the raid, without any search warrant, was extremely arbitrary, which has raised the concern for the public. 
“Nagas who are already traumatized by AFSPA, the last thing it can wish for is the state police to emulate the Indian Army”, BAN said. BAN has appealed that such untoward incidences do not occur again.
