Peace needed for development: Nganlang

Parliamentary secretary for land resources and excise, S.B. Nganlang Phom stressed for peace and tranquility while asserting that peace and harmony were needed for advancement, development and economical stability in the society.
He said this while addressing the 64th “Phom Day” celebration at Longleng local ground, Monday. 
Nganlang therefore called upon the people of Longleng to join hands for all round development and in building a bright future for the upcoming generation.
He said Phom people were fortunate since it was the only tribe in Nagaland that has set aside to commemorate the birth of peace and tranquillity, recognized by the state government. 
On the occasion, parliamentary secretary also lauded the pioneers for their effort to bring peace in the “land of Phom” had left aside the practice of head hunting among the people. “When fellow Naga’s were pursuing in for modern education during the 1950s, Phom’s were competing for the number of heads count and counter attacked among themselves”, Nganlang said. 
However, he said with the efforts of various likeminded leaders of all villages came forward together to shun the practices of heading among the people on June 6, 1952 where those bygone leaders pledged themselves to remain peaceful and loyal to the government. 
He therefore, urged the Phom People in particular and other Naga brethrens in general to follow the steps taken by the leaders of Phom so that foundation of all round development in the state could be set up. 
He further urged all sections of the people of the district to be loyal and carryout the message of love and peace to other parts of land.
The celebration was also witnessed by number of head of officers from civil and military by paying their respect to the leaders who had sacrificed for peace. Others who spoke on the occasion included DC Longleng, Y.Denngan Avennoho and president, Phom People’s Council (PPC) Leisha Phom. 
Re-affirmation of peace and invoking of blessing was done by pastor Town Baptist Church, Longleng, Rev.Beau Phom. Phom Day: Way Forward towards 75 years was delivered by executive secretary PBCA, Nuklu Phom.
Students of Mt. Carmel School, Phom Lempong School, Christian School and Good Shepherd School presented the significance of Phom Day towards 75 years. Contemporary song was also presented by KTPH group Yongphang while folk dances were performed by Yongshei Union Longleng (male) and Huphang Union Longleng (female).
