Acharya leads Yoga Day in Nagaland

Nagaland state on Tuesday joined the global community in observing the second International Day of Yoga at Indira Gandhi Stadium here led by Nagaland governor P.B. Acharya.
State level programme was organized by the state department of youth resources and sports (YR&S), National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS) Nagaland, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangatan (NYKS), Bharat Scout & Guides (BS & G) and Patanjali Yog Samity (PYS).
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the event, the governor said “wealth is health and health is health”, adding that yoga had nothing to do with religion. He said yoga was a science and a complete exercise, which the world has accepted. “Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition which helps in balancing of mind, body through an action,” Acharya said, adding that yoga helps in changing “our life styles and creating consciousness.”
Around 1300 persons participated in the event including the governor P.B. Acharya and other dignitaries such as Prahlad Singh Patel MP, Dr. Yashwant Singh MP, Mahendra Singh MP, Ram Narain Dudi MP, Nagaland minister of forest environment and climate change Dr. Neikesalie Kire, Parliamentary Secretary Youth Resources & Sports Khriehu Liezietsu, Parliamentary Secretary Works & Housing, Er. Levi Rengma, Lok Sabha secretariat director A.K Shah, additional chief secretary, Nagaland, R. Benchilo Thong, three secretaries from Nagaland civil secretariat and a host of VIPs besides NCC, NSS, NYKS, BS & G, PYS, IG stadium academy students, CRPF, police personnel, MPs, governor’s team and others.
Kelhozasie Keyho and Amit were the yoga instructors of hall-A and hall –B respectively. Monika from DDK was the announcer.
It may be mentioned that the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi while addressing the 69th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 27, 2014 urged the world community to adopt an International Day of Yoga and on December 21 the same year, 193 members of UNGA approved the proposal by consensus with a record of 177 countries co-sponsoring a resolution recognizing the 21st June as “International Day of Yoga”.
