DAO Wokha conducts trg on EIL, oil palm plantation

District Agriculture Office (DAO) Wokha conducted an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) training programme on June 30 at L.Yanthung village. 
The programme was conducted with the aim to educate the farmers for proper identification and monitoring of pests and to manage them before they reach Economic Injury Level (EIL). During the programme, Agriculture Officer (AO) Eyingo Tungoe spoke on the objective of Farmers Field School (FFS) and role of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) while ballot box test of farmer’s knowledge, identification of pest, defenders and their feeding capacity was done by A.O Mhathung Odyuo.
The programme was chaired by AFA Nzanbemo T Erui.  Rotenticide and Kits were distributed to 24 farmers who has registered for FFS
Earlier, DAO Wokha also organized a training programme on oil palm cultivation on June 7 at Meriyan community hall. In the programme, official from directorate of agriculture DDA, Alet Hansing informed that oil palm was introduced in Nagaland in 2014-15 after MoU was signed between Shivasis oil palm private limited and department of Agriculture. He also appraised the farmers about the origin and present market values of oil palm.  Hansing also informed the farmers that a separate grower’s card would be provided to all the registered growers which would be linked with their bank account for marketing of their produce.
Resource person A.O Mhathung spoke on the package and practices of oil palm cultivation. Thereafter an interaction session between the resource person, officials and the beneficiaries was made.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by agriculture officer Eyingo Tungoe while introductory speech was delivered by DAO Wokha C Peter Yanthan and vote of thanks was delivered SMS Rose Mary.  
Altogether, 45 beneficiaries from Tsungza, Meriyan, L. Yanthung and Totsu village attended the training programme.
