
Wildlife Division, Dimapur and Intanki National Park, Peren jointly organized celebration of Wildlife Week program on October 8 at Jalukiekam village on the theme “Speak for the voiceless (Wildlife)” with managing trustee, Nagaland Wildlife & Biodiversity Conservation Trust (NW&BCT), Bano Haralu as the chief guest.
Bano lamented and expressed concern over the drastic decline of wildlife in “our” state due to deforestation and hunting, while extinction of wildlife species like hornbill would be like losing “our” Naga identity, she said.
Wildlife warden Dimapur, Caroline IFS spoke about the importance of observing Wildlife Week and called upon the students, youths and all concerned to care for wildlife speak. Field director, Intanki National Park (INP), Heuneilung impressed upon the students to inculcate love and affinity towards wildlife.
Dr. Zubeni IFS also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the gathering about interdependence in nature and how extinction of one species could affect others and the environment. GB, Jalukiekam village, N.G Sangzu also spoke on the occasion. Other activities like singing and drawing based on “Nature and wildlife” was done by students from different schools of the neighbouring villages. The program was chaired by forest ranger INP ‘B’ range, Aaron Yimchunger and vote of thanks was delivered by forest ranger INP ‘A’ range, Kenlumtatei.
CHIZAMI: Wild Life Week culminated at Chizami on October 8, where consultative awareness programme and cleanliness drives were organized by Phek Forest division with the collaboration of local functionaries and Eco Clubs within the district.
Chizami, DFO, Phek, Rongsenlemla Imchen IFS stressed on the importance of protection of wild life and its conservation strategies. She reminded the village councils of all the villages under Phek district to abide by the forest resolution passed by the respective councils in spirit and action, and also cautioned that non adherence of the same will amount to criminal offence under the Wild Life Protection Act 1972 in addition to all obligatory penalties as deemed fit.
The department also thanked the local functionaries of Chizami town and its surrounding villages for cooperating with Phek Forest divison.VCC Chizami Kewepelo Tsuhah and adhoc chairman, Chizami Town, Wekedu Wezah spoke on behalf of the local community. To mark the occasion cleanliness drive was organized with the cooperation of Eco Clubs from Eastern Mission School, Chizami and village councils within Chizami beat.
