Mountain Music Academy (MMA) launched the state’s first music related Talk Show on Sunday, under the banner of “Le Connect – Inside the Mind of an Artiste.”
The first episode of Le Connect was hosted by MMA director-Bethel Tsuzu which was aimed at bringing successful musicians, performers, technicians, writers, managers, and others related to the music and entertainment industry to not just perform and address the gathering, but also share their challenges, their motivations and aspirations as artistes. It is aimed at helping local artistes and performers realize that they are not alone with their dreams and dreads, and it will also bring alive the fact that they are part of a larger community of artistes, and a force to be reckoned with.
Bethel Tsuzu, an acclaimed pianist and vocalist herself, said “I believe, whether you are part of a band or orchestra, or a soloist, your art and skill can become stagnant and lack growth if you stop communicating and connecting with fellow artistes. As artistes, whether teaching or performing, if we lose the connection with each other, we’ll end up in a small and ignorant world of our own. You can never grow, if you don’t constantly learn from and stay in touch with the world around you.”
The first episode of Le Connect featured Fergal Hughes – professional drummer, studio artiste, and RockSchool examiner. The Irishman who is also a devoted husband, and father of two beautiful daughters, shared his views on balancing his life as an artiste and a family man. He also shared insights into what makes a great performer, and what it takes to get through the internationally renowned Rock School, with which he has been associated for years. This was followed up with a very interactive Q&A session with the audience.
Hughes thrilled the gathering with a solo performance on the drums and he wrapped up the event with a spontaneous drum-battle with Bendangtoshi Ao.
The next episode of Le Connect is scheduled for a Sunday afternoon, in November 2016. The date and guest details will be announced soon.
