Two simultaneous training programs on “Developing Cooperatives as Rural Growth Centres (RKVY-TP-02)” and “Nurturing Cooperatives as Institutions for Developing Agriculture and Allied Activities (RKVY-TP-03)” respectively is underway at Cooperative Training Centre, Medziphema inaugurated by secretary of Cooperation, Lithrongla G. Chisi as chief guest on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chishi, while encouraging the participants to take the training seriously and commit themselves to create a difference, reminded them of their responsibility to build a coordination between the departments and civil societies. She said if the societies fail then it would be the failure of the department of cooperation.
She said the department was to guide the co-operative societies towards a sustainable economy and there was a need for the officials to walk an extra mile which would create a great impact to the state’s economy ultimately.
Terming most societies in existence as “subsidy oriented” rather than to bring development and to change situations, she said those people were after “free money and not development”.
She said except one or two societies, no other society has shown any sigh of growth and the growth rate of the state remains somewhere near zero.
Giving an overview of the trainings, Dr. J S Chauhan of (TOPIC) NCDC said that the objective of holding such trainings was to involve the co-operative societies and help them flourish and play a pivotal role in the development of rural economies.
The training on “Developing Cooperatives as Rural Growth Centres” will go on for five days and 35 people are participating in it while the training on “Nurturing Cooperatives as Institutions for Developing Agriculture and Allied Activities” will go on for four days with 35 people participating.
The trainings, which are being conducted by NCDC, TOPIC, Gurgaon would conclude on October 20 and October 21 respectively.
