Nagaland governor, PB Acharya, while addressing the annual meeting of the Rajya Sainik Board (RSB) on October 21 last, emphasized on emotional integration and empowerment by skill education to the children of ex-servicemen.
A Raj Bhavan press release stated that at present, the state has a strong committee consisting of heads of security and civil organizations headed by the governor and still such ex-servicemen of 2400 in Nagaland have to wait for the central government and state plans and projects for the welfare.
According to the release, the governor called for changing mindset and said the people of the state have also a social obligation and duty towards those patriotic young people who were back from the fighting forces.
“Our society should mobilize opinion to take care of our ex-servicemen and share create opportunities for the economic strength of our young children and widows,” the release quoted governor as saying. It said the governor also reiterated that emotional integration of ex-servicemen fraternity by having exchange program with other north east states like attending each other’s rally and events.
The release said empowerment by education was another important facet that was deliberated in detail. Governor articulated that skill education should facilitate employment and suggested that skill training like Nursing, Physiotherapy and Driving etc should be imparted and for which a social corpus fund has to be created from voluntary donation by empowered citizens of Nagaland for ex-servicemen of the state who have defended the nation from external aggression. “Therefore it is our duty to look after them by generous contribution,” said the governor.
He further stated that cultural group at District level could be formed by ex-servicemen and can be co-opted in NEZCC. Acharya said this will help garner additional income besides projecting talent. He also suggested exclusive rally by the widows and the youth of ex-servicemen to address their necessity for skill based education course.
Governor opined that “our strong committee” should not be the only agency to contribute the contributions from the central and state governments, but it should be spent judiciously. During the state managing committee meeting, he appreciated the dynamism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for granting OROP after 49 years. He was positive that the anomalies would be also resolved in the near future. Governor also appreciated Brig KK Roy Choudhury, and his staff for their efforts in resolving problems and grievances of ex-servicemen fraternity in a meaningful manner.
Governor stated that the DCs play an important role and request their greater participation and interaction in various events and welfare measures of ESM. He expressed pain that none of the DCs attended the meeting. State home minister, Y. Patton, assured that he would ensure their presence in the next meeting. Speaking on behalf of the chief minister, the home minister said since the soldiers retire at an early age, welfare and resettlement for them was of utmost importance.
R.B. Thong, chief secretary (in-charge), Abhijit Sinha, home commissioner, chief of staff 3 Corps, Maj Gen Sanjay Gupta, IG AR (N) and other senior officers from army and civil were also attended the meeting.
