While the issue on 33% reservation for women in civic polls received mixed response from various organizations, the Nagaland Public Rights Awareness and Action Forum (NPRAAF) on Sunday issued a statement in support of the state government’s decision, stating that reservation will encourage the intellectual and capability of women folk in decision making to lead the Nagas.
NPRAAF viewed that state government decision to implement reservation policy was not to look down women as weaker section, since there has never been discrimination against women in any way in the Naga society.
Instead, NPRAAF information and publicity cell, said that womenfolk were considered equal to male counterpart and that they have excelled in all fields even without reservation. But in politics they still remain to be seen actively involved especially in policy bodies”, said NPRAAF. It further appealed to the civil societies and political parties not to go against the policy of the government but to extend support.
Also, taking up the bad road condition in the state, NPRAAF appealed to the state government not to just apply “cosmetic” on the roads during Hornbill Festival for the tourist to travel smoothly but make sincere effort in providing better road to the people.
