ACAUT in reaction to Dimapur District Congress Committee (DDCC) claim, said that when the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland had declared four lakh voters out of 11.20 lakh voters in the state was bogus, the statement of DCC was uncalled for.
Rather, ACAUT media cell in a press statement, asked DCC to applaud the district administration and CEO for bringing down the voters from 1,15,395 in 2004 to 52,083 in 2016 under Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC). Media cell reminded DCC, that the present voter tally of 52,083 was not final and certainly subjected to further reduction.
ACAUT also disagreed on the reduction in voter names under DMC as claimed by DCC, stating that every Naga with permanent address in the other districts were enrolled in Dimapur.
It said that lakhs of legal and illegal immigrants both were illegally enrolled in the state.
To unearth this, ACAUT said, Nagaland Tribes Council had formed a Co-ordination Committee with technical inputs from the State Election Commission. Therefore, it asked DCC to congratulate the district administration and CEO, rather than being jabbed.
It also asked DCC not to go against public opinion, when the citizens were voicing out for clean e-roll for a clean election. “Political rivalry is healthy and part of the democratic process but it should not be at the cost of our people”, ACAUT said.
Further, ACAUT appealed ECI to carry out intensive E-roll revision to delete the four lakhs bogus voters in the State E-roll, which has not been done since 2003.
ACAUT condemns ‘un-principle’ action of VCs
ACAUT also condemned the “unprincipled” action of four village councils (VCs)- Chapka, Yaongyimty Old, Yaongyimty New and Phansang under 24 Angetyongpang A/C, in declaring their support to parliamentary secretary of animal husbandry and veterinary services, S. Chuba Longkumer, and the declaration by Kelingmen village to support minister of National Highways Nuklutoshi, in the forthcoming 2018 elections.
Since, such declarations was crime and was against clean election campaign of NBCC and the principle of “one man one vote”, ACAUT vowed to explore all legal options to see whether such declarants could be prosecuted.
ACAUT said that the action of the VCs was totally illegal and murdered the “tenets of democracy”. Therefore, it could be concluded as having made a pact to capture polling booths during the 2018 election in favour of candidates, ACAUT said.
It said when Nagas were yearning for a clean government through clean electoral practices, the four VCs resorting to anti-Christian resolutions was a disappointment for every right-thinking citizen in Nagaland and shameful. Further, ACAUT asked all right thinking citizens to reject the declarations made by the VCs.
