VCs support to candidates unlawful, says LKMCECC

November 13, 2016 | by admin

Langpangkong Students’ Conference Clean Election Campaign Committee (LKMCECC) has joined ACAUT in condemning the “unlawful” public declaration of the five village councils- Kelingmen, Yaongyimti (old), Yaongyimti (New), Phangsang and Chakpa- to support certain candidates in the forthcoming 2018 assembly polls.
LKMCECC in a press note said, the public declaration has directly challenged “adult suffrage”- a right to vote given to every citizen by the constitution of India.
In this regard, LKMCECC said it has decided to take up the matter with the Election Commission of India (ECI) with certain practical proposals for necessary action to ensure free and fair election.
The committee alleged that the VCs have “simply and thoughtlessly” breached the “Pledge signed in the name of God” on September 3 at Chuchuyimlang village, where all 33 villages and town units under Langpangkong range in Mokokchung district took the pledge for clean election in their respective villages and town units.
Taking the issue as an eye-opener and reminder, it urged the range people to be more determined and committed towards cleansing the mess of election from Langpangkong range in particular.
The committee also said the public declaration was unfortunate and embarrassment, when the people of Langpangkong range under the banner of LKMCECC were making all efforts to cleanse the corrupt and unlawful system of electioneering from the range. It therefore, appealed the people of Langpangkong range to uphold the September 3 pledge in letter and spirit.
