World disability day cum pre-Christmas jointly organized by Nagaland Parents Association for Disabled (NAPAD) and Social Welfare department of Nagaland under the theme “achieving 17 goals for the future we want” was held with minister of Forest, Environment and Climate change Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire as the chief guest at Highland Park, Meriema on Saturday.
Dr. Nicky in his address expressed deep concern for the disabled children and suggested to organize a programme where all the legislators could attend and witness their performances and get their cooperation.
Minister gave his assurance that he would do something for the disabled children along with the support and cooperation of the state legislators.
Disability commissioner Nagaland, Dr. Atha Vizol in his address disclosed that Nagaland has 29,631 disabled children as per the 2011 census. Highlighting some of the achievements for the disabled persons, Dr. Vizol informed that blind and vocational training centre at Dimapur and a park at Kohima were on the verge of completion.
He said the proposal for disabled accessibility in the building in and around Kohima town has been sent to Centre. He expressed gratitude to NBCC for observing every 3rd Sunday of November as disabled Sunday.
Dr. Vizol called upon every citizen to re-commit with unity and implement the disabilities Act 1994 where the disabled people would get equal opportunity, protection and rights. Additional director of Social Welfare Nagaland, Keweu Inakhe also address the gathering.
The programme was led by Arenpla NAPAD advisor and Zalekhrülü, the speeches were interpreted into sign language by Catherine Thong, invocation prayer said by Rev. Zotuo Kiewhuo principal Kohima Bible College, special song was presented by Tejoketho Sothu student of Penta school of music, while vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Joyce Angami advisor NAPAD. In song competition, Jo Foundation School bagged the first prize, G. Rio School and Tabitha Enabling Academy bagged second and third prize respectively. Lozinü Noswe director Penta School of Music and Vibetuonuo Tepa teacher Northfield School were the judges for singing competition.
MOKOKCHUNG: ‘World Disabled Day’, was observed by the Care and Support Society (C&SS), in collaboration with Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority, Saturday, at the Mokokchung Municipal Council conference hall, with DC, Sushil Kumar Patel as the chief guest.
“The negative attitude of the society towards the differently baled people must be changed”, said Sushil Kumar Patel. He said that it was the responsibility of the abled people to create awareness to motivate these special people to stand on equal footing. The chief guest highlighted that there were many schemes offered by the government, to uplift the status of the differently abled people for equal footing with the rest of the society. These were the offer of 3% job reservations, with the condition that they applied for the job and appeared for the exams.
While delivering short speeches, District welfare Officer, Bendangkokba disclosed that the department has recently identified 822 differently abled people in the district and that 437 persons are receiving pensions, while the rest are in the process for assistance, according to their necessity. Speaking on behalf of Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority, Advocate Abi encouraged the differently abled people to strive as equals, and at the same time, stated that it was the responsibility of the society to provide them opportunities. IED coordinator, SSA, Chubala spoke on the significance of the day while the welcome address was delivered by C&SS MD, Imchawati, invocation was said by youth promoter SBC Temsuwati. NIULAND: In Nuiland the programme was held at Adhoc Town Committee Hall with ADC Niuland V. Lovitoly Sema gracing the occasion as chief guest.
Stressing that sensitizing, supporting, encouraging and removing stigma with regards to persons with disability as the four main essence of commemorating World Disability Day, Lovitoly exhorted the gathering. Lovitoly also, lauded Prodigals’ Home for organizing World Disability Program at Niuland and assured her support to the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Project under Niuland block.
Prodigals’ Home asst. director, Maong Jamir delivered the welcome speech and also presented on disability situation in Nagaland and about CBR program’s concept. District Rehabilitation Program in charge, Dr. Imli Ozukum (PMR) presented on medical perspective of disability.
Earlier invocation was done by Sumi Baptist Church Niuland asso. pastor child, Rosy; scripture reading by Vikali, song by Ashika Zhimo, testimony by GS of Nagaland State Disability Forum Ashe H. Kiba, exhortation by vice chairman Bohoto and benediction by Katia Krichena.
MON: Mon District Legal Service Authority (MDLSA) in collaboration with the Mon District Administration and Mon District Disabled Parents Association organised the day with SDO (C) Mon, Elika Jorlim and MDLSA secretary Phuleto Yeptho as resource persons.
Speaking at the occasion Elika said there was nothing to shy away from who we were, because even disabled or handicap could make a difference in the society. Phuleto Yeptho shared about legal rights for disabled and other resources to support the welfare of the disabled.
Earlier the programme was chaired by PLV MDLSA Tingkai Konyak, invocation prayer by pastor Changki, welcome speech by Disability co-ordinator M. Nangpa, Yangpo Konyak (Disabled) presented a special number, MDHS secretary Chemkhah gave report of their activities and vote of thanks by MDDPA president Nangmung Konyak.
