February 3, 2017 | by admin

Nagaland Press Association (NPA) and Dimapur Press Club (DPC) have condemned the January 31 incident in Dimapur, where IRB personnel reportedly assaulted a staff of Nagaland Page within the office premises.
In a press release, NPA stated that due to security concerns for its employees, the publisher of Nagaland Page has decided not to publish its print edition, adding that “this is a matter of deep concern.” While the Dimapur police apologized telephonically for the incident, the NPA maintained that “this alone is not sufficient” and that necessary and tangible steps must be taken to ensure the security of those working in the fourth estate.
Observing that media persons have been made ‘soft targets’ by both state and non-state actors, the NPA said it cannot remain a mute spectator to the repeated assaults made against its fraternity members.
The press association asserted that the government and public must henceforth realise that the media in Nagaland was the only proper outlet for public communication and dialogue and it was high time this role of the media be respected.
DPC: Dimapur Press Club (DPC) said it has noticed that even media persons were not spared during such events by various agencies not realising media houses acted as a communication platform for public. DPC appealed to the public and government to respect the profession of media in Nagaland and avoid such incidents from occurring in future.
