Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC) and Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) on Saturday said they were totally appalled by the “apathetic and inhumane attitude” of chief minister T.R. Zeliang. They said, “in his adamant stand”, Zeliang has refused to step down as chief minister even after the expiry of February 10 deadline, based on the numerical support of the legislatures and vehemently ignoring the voices of the people.
On CM’s claim that he had met their demands, they questioned how did he “even imagine forgetting the barefaced betrayal to JCC and NBCC and the loss of precious lives of three innocent Naga youths?”
The committees also expressed shock at elected members, who they said appeared to have no iota of conscience on the issue. They said the elected members have “surprisingly” also gone against the people and continue to support TR Zeliang “whose act of betrayal has led to the loss of precious lives and consequent hardships being faced by the people in all walks of life.”
NTAC and JCC said “are they (MLAs) not duty bound to listen to the voice of the people and their sufferings than turn a deaf ear, rooted upon lust for money and power?”
They said it was high time the elected representatives realize that in a democratic form of government the voice of the people would ultimately prevail over “any mischievous deception.”
Also, they said that people’s voice cannot be suppressed for all time, adding that the state of affairs in today’s cul-de-sac for the leadership of TR Zeliang was that the demands were fulfilled or the precious lives of those who died for this cause were brought back or else there was no stopping in the voice of the people to keep haunting him for all time to come.
And to all the “callous legislatures”, JCC and NTAC said they only wished them good luck for the coming election.
