ICAR organises input distribution programme

ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre organised an input distribution programme on March 16 at Jalukie town, Peren district.
The programme was held in connection with the projects “Enhancing production, productivity of maize and groundnut for livelihood improvement and promotion of livestock farming among the tribal farmers of Nagaland” and “Jhum improvement for food security of tribal farmers through sustainable agriculture” under TSP. 
Speaking as chief guest, SDO (C), Jalukie Rhosietho Nguorie, applauded the initiatives taken by ICAR to uplift the socio-economic condition of the farmers through sustainable agricultural practices. 
He requested the farmers to give more emphasis in scientific farming to increase yield from limited resources. 
Meanwhile, ICAR Nagaland centre, joint director Dr. D. J. Rajkhowa, in his inaugural speech highlighted the role and activities being undertaken by the ICAR for the development of agriculture and allied sectors in the state. 
He asked the farmers to adopt scientific way of farming for self- sufficiency of agriculture and allied sectors in a sustainable way. Dr. Rajkhowa also highlighted the importance of conservation agriculture through water harvesting by developing jalkund. 
ICAR Nagaland centre, senior scientist and principle investigator of the projects Dr. L. K Baishya, while giving detailed outline of the projects, stressed on the need to improve jhum farming as a means to sustain livelihood and the importance of quality feeds in livestock farming. He encouraged the farmers to grow maize and groundnut for producing quality feeds for livestock. 
The programme further followed farmers-scientist interaction programme was held wherein resource persons from ICAR Nagaland centre, KVK Peren and KVK Dimapur addressed the problems raised by the farmers. Various farm inputs including organic fertilizer, seeds, silpaulin for jalkund, irrigation pipes and lime were distributed to the farmers.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by KVK, Peren programme coordinator James Kikon, where he briefed about the objective of the programme. Altogether 140 farmers and 12 resource person attended the programme.
