Election Commission of India has recognized the Nagaland Congress (NC) as a political party with effect from February 22, 2017.
This was informed at the plenary meeting of the Nagaland Congress held at Dimapur on Wednesday.
It may be pointed out that most of the senior members and former Congress legislators quit the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee recently to form the Nagaland Congress, as an alternate political party in the state.
Nagaland Congress spokesman said the party would bear true faith and allegiance to the constitution of India as by law established and to uphold the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India and to preserve and promote cultural heritage of the Nagas.
As a regional party, NC assured to provide transparency in governance and accountability to the public and all round development. Among others, the party said its core objective was to reform the state, safeguard the rights of Nagas, particularly to defend Article 371 (A) and to make the state free from corruption.
In this regard, the party called upon every right thinking and courageous citizen to come forward in order to bring a political change in the state. “Ours is a new party and an opening for fresh blood of leadership”, NC asserted, saying the party would fill the void that was lacking in the state.
Earlier, Nagaland Congress president, Nillo Rengma delivered the presidential address while the programme was chaired by NC working president, Joshua Sumi and welcome address by NC vice president, Kusatho. Treasurer of the party, Z. Lohe also exhorted the gathering.
The programme began with the invocation by senior pastor Rengma Baptist Church, Padumpukhuri, vote of thanks by NC vice president Prasielie Pienyu and benediction by NC general secretary, S. Suponngmeren Jamir.
