A medical officer has cautioned that hypertension (high blood pressure-HBP) and diabetes mellitus have become common ailments among the citizens of Kohima town.
Speaking to this correspondent during a free medical camp, medical officer of Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) Seikhazou Kohima, Dr. Aomeren Longkumer, cautioned that due to lack of physical activity and incorrect food habit, most people were suffering from HBP and diabetics.
Dr. Aomeren disclosed that 50-60% of office goers in Kohima town were overweight which could led to increase in sugar level and eventually diabetics, if not treated on time. He recommended daily exercise as a preventive measure.
Dr. Aomeren and team from UPHC Seizkhazou Kohima was organising a free medical camp organized for residents of Forest Colony and Mewibogei Colony at Forest Colony Panchayat Hall Kohima on Saturday.
Dr. Aomeren informed that the UPHC remains open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on all working days and asked the people to avail free services and medicine from the centre.
The free medical camp was led by district urban health consultant Subonglemla Jami including four doctors SMO Chiephobozou CHC Dr. Yarenthung Jami (gynaecologist), Dr. Savi Naleo (dentist) Viswema CHC, Dr. Seyie (paediatrician), mobile ICTC team, UPHC team and others.
Altogether 232 patients including women and children were treated in the camp and were given free medicine. Forest Colony chairman, Ngamyok Konyak and Mewibogei Colony chairman, Pangertoshi Pongen, expressed gratitude to the UPHC team for providing free treatment and free medicine the people, especially those who could not afford to avail such services in hospitals.
