NSVC organises ‘dog show cum competition’

Commemorating “World Veterinary Day”, Nagaland State Veterinary Council (NSVC) organized “dog show cum competition” with Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire, MLA, as the chief guest at Capital Convention Centre Kohim, Saturday.
In his address, Dr. Nicky highlighted the need for creating awareness on appropriate rearing of dogs and asked the pet owners to not only follow the trend of rearing new dog breeds but to take proper care of their pets.
He also advised the veterinary department to not only organise dog show but create awareness on proper ways to rear a dog.
In a keynote address, dean college of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry Jalukie, Dr. Capt. G. D. Rao, advised the pet owners to feed the animal with standard food, to train and discipline their pets and take them from regular check-up.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) Kohima, Joseph Hesso, also highlighted the important role played by dogs in crime scenes.
Speaking on behalf of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC),                 Dr. Amenla Walling appreciated the initiative taken by NSVC and asked the animal owners to know their responsibilities of owning a pet animal specially dogs. 
She said the municipals or the local bodies have role to play for better co-habitation and streamlining through regulations as issues of man-animal conflict arises on some occasions.
The dog show was judged in two categories- mixed breed and pure breed according to their maintenance, grooming and presentation. 
Altogether 10 pure breeds and 5 mixed breeds participated in the show. Gifty (Cocker Spaniel) owner- Meren Walling was announced as the winner of pure breed followed by Midnight (Dalmatian) owner-Limatila and Shiro (German shepherd) owner- Angulie as first and second runners up respectively. Hunter, owner-Adizo Khezhie was announced as winner of mixed breed while Tiny and Browny, owners-Apokla and Aneipele Dianee were announced as  second runners up respectively.
The winners for pure breed were given certificates and cash prizes of Rs. 10000, Rs. 7000 and Rs. 5000 while in the mixed breed category certificates and cash prizes of Rs. 7000,  Rs. 5000 and Rs. 3000 were awarded respectively.
Police Dog squad of District Executive Force (DEF) Kohima made a special appearance with their trained dogs during the programme. The programme was chaired by Dr. I.P. Khala president NSVC. The judges of the show cum competition were Dr. Doreen Peseyie chief judge, Dr. Michael Imti Imchen and Dr. Sungkum Jamir.
