Drawing attention to the ongoing work of digging up the highway to lay hume pipes over old culvert, the Eros Colony Council has appealed residents and shops not to dump garbage/hazardous materials in the drainage.
A press note by Eros Colony Council chairman Badu Angami, secretary Dietho Rhakho and govt GB Victo Yeptho stated that blockage of main outlet culvert/drainage which drains out Hong Kong Market, MP Road Deluxe point, Elora Line & Blue Hill station under Eros Colony has affected these areas causing flooding to residences and shops leading to unhealthy living conditions. The situation has also compelled 12 families to vacate residences and around 35 families affected at present.
While in the past the issue had been raised to concern authority, remedial measures could not be taken up owing to financial constraints, however ECC stated that this time the situation has become very serious that the colony council had taken up initiative to clear the blockage.
ECC stated that it was doing its best with help of some affected members yet the major obstacle was to dig up the highway and put hume pipes over the old culvert. In this regard, work is continuing for the 3rd week thereby causing lots of inconvenience to public and traffic for which the council request for kind cooperation.
ECC further expressed gratitude to DC Dimapur for contributing Rs.50,000/- for ongoing works and also assuring to take up the matter at higher levels; administrative officer DMC for extending use of JCB and DMC labours; EE Highways who along with his SDO had verified the affected spot and granted permission to cut the road and also assured to give required hume pipes; staff of state disaster management authority for doing spot verification for needful consideration.
