State lacks gender equality: Yitachu

May 6, 2017 | by admin

Minister of School Education and SCERT, Yitachu on Friday said despite making tall claims of gender equality within the Naga society, the reality was different as sons and daughters are not equally treated.
Yitachu’s speech made while addressing the silver jubilee celebration of the Pochury Women Organization, Kohima (PWOK) at Ura Academy hall as the chief guest, comes at a time when the state government has been at loggerheads with apex Naga tribe organisations and civil society groups over the issue of “women’s rights vis-a-vis 33% women reservation”.
Yitachu called upon the mothers to play greater role to foster gender equality in the society, saying any society cannot develop and progress without giving equal platform to the women.
Citing the recent ULB poll issue, he said the incident had tarnished the image of the Naga society especially the Naga missionaries who were working outside preaching about love and peace.
Yitachu further encouraged the Pochury womenfolk continue their noble activities for the society
Also speaking as the guest of honour, parliamentary secretary MTF and Lotteries, Khriehu Liezietsu lauded the visionary and pioneer leaders of the organization. He said jubilee celebration was a time to seek blessings, introspect and forgive one another.
Acknowledging that the organization had achieved a milestone by competing 25 years, Khriehu further appealed the members to shape the future of the community and the society.
Khriehu also reminded the people of a bright future, saying the land of the Pochury people was rich with mineral and natural resources.
While recalling the cordial relationship between Pochury and Angami community, Khriehu also acknowledged the contributions made by the Pochury community for the Naga society,
PWOK founding president, Neino Katiry in her address shared her experience and the journey of the organization during its nascent years.
Earlier, the monolith of PWOK building was unveiled by the chief guest at Kenuozou colony Kohima and the dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Pochury Baptist Church Kohima associate pastor Mosa Tsang.
The programme was led by Atono Nyuthe, invocation prayer by PBCK women pastor, while the presidential address was delivered by PWOK president Malsawmthangi Leyri. President Pochury Hoho Kohima and president Pochury Mothers’ Association also addressed the gathering.
The chief guest also released the jubilee souvenir. During the programme all the founding members and pioneers were felicitated led by Senti Pojar. Vote of thanks was proposed by P. Sanuo Jurry while pastor PBCK Rev. Rathvii Thuviiti delivered the benediction.
Highlights of the programme included cultural items followed by jubilee feast. The Programme was attended by hundreds of Pochury women, AMK leaders, Tenyimi women leaders, Rengma women Kohima, NMA leaders, Pochury public and church leaders and others.
