
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome while speaking at the inauguration of newly added colony in Dimapur, Seikhohen Memorial (SM) on Monday spoke on the importance of civic sense.
Felicitating the colony on behalf of district administration, Yhome reminded the community that the colony leaders’ task for the colony started today and as a resident of urban area, bigger problem of waste management lay ahead. In this respect, he said that the colony as a community should inculcate civic sense. “Colony recognition is a good thing but it is the beginning of responsibility” he added.
Yhome lamented on the lack of civic sense and sense of responsibility among “us” though educational qualification and degrees have been acquired.
He advocated that possessing “self-centred” mindset would not enable us to progress and therefore, he asked the gathering to stop blaming the government and municipal and start contributing consumer civic sense and education.
He further called upon SM Colony community to extend co-operation with various departments for a better tomorrow and change their mindset with the change of time.
Briefing about the history of SM Colony, Deilhing Doungel maintained that SM colony had been named after late Pu Seikhohen Kuki who had sacrificed for the cause of the Naga nation and to give due recognition to his contribution to the Naga cause. In this regard, the family and well wishers further decided to name the present locality of the school named after him as ‘Seikhohen Memorial Colony’ and is accorded vide order no.Gen-14/CR/2016-D/4234-41 dated March 21, 2017.
The programme followed unveiling of the monolith by DC, Dimapur.
Earlier, invocation prayer was pronounced by retired director Information and Publicity, S. Changsan, welcome address by managing director City Director City College of Arts and Commerce N.K Nair. Vote of thanks delivered by Anthony Humtsoe.
