Members of the Nagaland State Commission for Women Asangla Cholong said, women can play a greater role to promote gender equality without hesitation, asserting that society cannot progress unless equal opportunity was given to the women.
She said this while addressing the silver anniversary celebration of Phomla Hoichem (Phom Women Organization) at district headquarters Longleng, as the chief guest.
Asangla Cholong who was also the founding president of the Phomla Hoichem said, unless equal platform was given to the womenfolk, no society could go forward and progress in any front. She therefore encouraged the womenfolk of Phom community to march forward without hesitation to shape the future of the society.
Asangla also said anniversary was a time to retrospect on the past years and to honour the past leaders who had rendered tireless service for the betterment of the society. She urged the womenfolk of Phom community to rededicate themselves to the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation through the celebration. Asangla also urged the Phomla Hoichem to play a vital role in facilitating noble and progressive activities not only in Phom community but in entire ENPO area. She also acknowledged the organization for achieving a milestone by completing 25 years since its existence.
Rev.Dr. L.Anjo Keikung, chancellor, NECU shared on the theme “Ray of Hope” on the occasion. Earlier, the chief guest unveiled the monolith at Phomla Hoichem office complex Longleng and dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Angbhen Phom, women secretary Phom Baptist Christian Association.
Others who delivered short speeches include, Denngan Avennoho deputy commissioner Longleng, president Phom Peoples’ Council Chingan Phom, Nyathei Phom, advisor ENWO and Akokla Shami, first treasurer.
The programme was led by Angngoi Phom, Nyemdan Phom, invocation prayer by Rev. Beau Phom, pastor Longleng Town Baptist Church while presidential address was delivered by A.Shamthai Phom, president Phomla Hoichem.
Chief guest also released the anniversary souvenir followed by dedicatory prayer by Y.Nuklu Phom, executive secretary Phom Baptist Christian Association. During the programme all the founding members and pioneers were felicitated which was led by Angbhen Phom. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr.I.Anungla Phom, convener.
The highlights of the programme included special song presented by choir and Phomla Yiukhadhu Longleng, poem recitation by Phomla Hoichem Tamlu unit. The programme was attended by hundreds of Phom women, representatives from ENWO, women representatives from all the tribes under ENPO, government officials, and public leaders.
