A booklet on “package of practices of large cardamom” in Konyak dialect was released Tuesday by DC Mon, W. Honje Konyak at DC conference hall. The booklet, translated by DHO Mon, Y Bongti Konyak and B. Yanang Konyak was published by Spices Board of India.
DC while congratulating the DHO for successfully translating the book into Konyak dialect stated that it was a significant day for the cardamom farmers.
Although the people of Mon district were basically farmers, due to lack of technology and modern method of farming, the farmers in the district could not yield sustainable amount of production, the DC said. Therefore, he urged upon the farmers gathered to adhere to the guidelines of the plantation process, as such methods and guidelines were made after thorough scientific research.
Pointing at the present system of farming, where the farmers generally practiced traditional method of cultivation, without looking into prospective aspect, the DC urged upon the farmers to change their mindset and work towards achieving maximum production to sustain their livelihood.
He also suggested the agri and allied departments to identify and differentiate various suitable locations for planting various types of plantation.
Meanwhile, DHO Mon Y Bongti Konyak, while delivering welcome address requested the farmers gathered to disseminate and sensitize whatever they had learnt at the program and from the booklet, with those illiterate farmers for the general benefit of all the famers of the district.
Senior field officer, Spices Board of India, Sandeep, while delivering short speech informed that the Spices Board of India would assists all those farmers who wanted to go for exposure tour to various research facilities in the country.
The program organised by DHO was attended by Irrigation and Flood Control, Veterinary, Agri, Soil and cardamom famers of the district.
