Preserve the sanctity and unity of women: Kenye

Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland, K.G. Kenye on Tuesday said ‘we’ need to preserve the sanctity and unity of ‘our’ women, while requesting the womenfolk not to dirty their hands with divisive politics which could potentially lead to further division within the already fragmented Naga society.
He was speaking at the NPF central team constituency tour programme here at Town Hall Tuesday.
Kenye’s observation comes against the backdrop of recent ULB election debacle in the State that triggered a renewed debate on Article 371 A vis-à-vis 33% women reservation.
As peace was “fragile in Naga society,” Kenye pondered over what would happen if ceasefire was abrogated in the near future.
According to him, when faced with such circumstances, the church and women were the only entities whom Nagas approach to act as envoys. Therefore, he asserted the need to preserve the sanctity and unity of Naga women.
In his address to party officials and workers, the NPF secretary general expounded on the ideology and core values of the NPF party.
Kenye also dwelt on the ULB issue and clarified the NPF’s stand with regard to women reservation. 
He later expressed fear that the situation of the state during 50s and 60s will revisit the State, adding “we are heading for rough weather.”
As such, Kenye asserted the need for a matured and seasoned leader capable of guiding the Nagas through any storm.
He also exhorted the party officials “reach out” to people and strengthen the party for the upcoming elections.
After a marathon meeting with various party officials/workers on Monday, Kenye said he was “quite satisfied” with the poll preparedness of the party.
Also speaking on the occasion, parliamentary secretary for Economics & Statistics, Tovihoto Ayemi, suggested measures to strengthen the party through active interaction and meetings.
He asserted that there was no alternative or option except NPF, saying NPF was the only party which has and can survive any political storm.
He however reminded the party officials not to be complacent, urging them to work consistently and guide ‘our’ people.
Several other party leaders spoke on the occasion.
Hosts of officials from NPF Central including Women Wing, Youth Wing, Minority Wing, NPF candidates for ULB elections and vice president NPF & in-charge of Dimapur Division attended the function.
