New building of Government Middle School, Meriema was inaugurated by mission director SSA Nagaland, Gregory Thejawelie Sote at Meriema village on Wednesday.
Sote in his address said with the implementation of SSA programme in the state there were lots of drastic changes in the infrastructures of government schools. He said the credit in the field of state education can be attributed to the coming of Christianity, which had resulted to opening of many schools. He however lamented that many government schools were not performing well.
He lauded the village council and school authority for successfully completing the school building which set a good example to others. Stressing on the need of quality education, director said to fulfil the goal it required the active participation of the community. He reminded the teachers, school authority and VEC to deliver quality education to the children. He also emphasized on the importance of encouraging the students to learn maths and science at school level.
Headmistress Mengubeinuo in her brief report on school building informed that the school building was constructed at the cost of more than Rs. 16, 28,000 and the school has 178 students enrolment this year. She appealed the concern authority to upgrade the school to high school level as the students faced problem to get admission after passing out class 8. She also informed to the mission director the need of furniture in the school.
The programme was chaired by chairman village Meriema Kelhoupralie Whuorie, welcome address was delivered by head GB Meriema Neiyalie Miachieo, special song was presented by GMS students, vote of thanks proposed by Keduolhoulie Huozha SMC members and benediction prayer said by pastor CRC Meriema Neilakuolie Huozha. The programme was attended by deputy director SSA Nagaland Theyievilie Suohumvü, village council members, GBs, VEC, public leaders, church leaders, students and others.
