An awareness program on compliance of Section 4 of COTPA 2003 for the hotels in Dimapur was held in CMO conference hall on May 10. Managers from 15 high end hotels attended the program.
According to DNO NTCP Dr. C. Tetseo, smoking and keeping anything which assists smoking like ashtrays and match boxes were prohibited in hotels and restaurants and they also have to display mandatory signage.
Any violation of the provision of this section would attract a penalty of Rs 200/-, he added.
The hotel managers of the 15 hotels in Dimapur have agreed to support the smoke free Dimapur campaign and they would also make efforts to make the hotels smoke free.
Further, Dr. C. Tetseo also requested all the other hotels to conform to the smoke free norms as regular inspection would be carried out in the days to come.
