Under the year’s theme -‘Nurses: A voice to lead, achieving the sustainable development goals’, the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), Dimapur Unit celebrated International Nurses Day at Medical Fellowship Hall, District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) on Friday with nursing superintendent DHD, Hisule Keppen Khing, as the theme speaker.
Khing said the theme was chosen by international council of nurses with quite a simple answer-to demonstrate and celebrate nurses’ achievements.
She reminded the nurses that they may not realise it but their work was helping achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and millions of nurses around the world are contributing to their success and making health care readily available for billions of people across the globe.
Khing said health was a central place in SDGs as it ensures healthy lives and promote well being for all ages and nursing has a major role to play in relation to SDG, adding that the work of nurses has major impact on the delivery of the other SDG such as education and poverty, while their roles are critical in achieving global mandates such as universal health coverage and the SDG.
Nurses must break down walls between professions to create cost effective interventions to improve the lives of patients with complex health and social needs, Khing maintained.
“The best way nurses can support the development of the profession is by creating a climate of co-operation, worthy and challenging workplaces with interdisciplinary and ethical thinking.”
She also asserted that nurses’ voices should be heard as part of multidisciplinary team of health professionals.
DHD assistant medical superintendent, Dr. Belho, said nurses are an important part of healthcare and therefore should be broad minded and kind exhorted.
Nurses, he said, are the first to receive the sick and give them hope and comfort. And if nurses can have kindness instil in them than this will take a person’s moral high, Dr. Belho added.
Dr. Belho also called on the nurses to maintain their dignity and be wise in using their authority.
A role play on the theme was performed by School of Nursing, Singrijan and special number from School Of Nursing, DHD. Earlier, invocation was pronounced by DHD chaplain Rev. Yhunlo Thong and vote of thanks rendered by assistant nursing superintendent DHD, Khetoni. Staff Reporter
LONGLENG: The 11th International Nurses’ Day was celebrated on May 12 at MS Office District Hospital Longleng under the theme ‘Nurse: A voice to lead-Achieving the sustainable development goals.’
The programme was organized by Trained Nurses Association Local Branch Longleng and was attended by all the ANM’s and Nurses from the sub-centres and Primary Health Centre. SMO District Hospital Dr. Satuo and Ayush MO Dr. Senti also attended the programme.
Earlier, ANM, sub-centre Yongshei Moishen chaired the programme, followed by the Nurses Anthem and ANM, District Hospital Longleng, Hamphu, invoked God’s blessing.

Exhorting the gathering sr. Gynaecologist, Dr. Azo Louise, saluted the nurses for their selfless service. He expressed that nurses were second to none as they play a great role in patient care, management and recovery working day and night in tough and stressful environment.
He called upon the nurses to be always vigilant during duty hours and encouraged them to use their God gifted voice, smile, gentle hands and competent professional knowledge to save lives. Dr. Azo also advised them to maintain cordial working atmosphere among colleagues and at the same time update their medical knowledge to keep abreast with modern medical practices.
The program was chaired by Neikrope-u, invocation by Akhwele, a special song was presented by nurses of DH Phek, Nurse Theme was read out by Medovelu, vote of thanks by Kekhrongupe-u and benediction by Shezotalu.
The program was attended by doctors, staffs of DH Phek, DPO DAPCU and CMO office.
AMI: Asian Mission Institute (AMI) Dimapur Branch, Nagaland, celebrated World International Nurses Day on Friday at its campus with advocate and chairman of Indigenous Minority Tribes of Nagaland (IMTN), Lun Tunglung as chief guest.
Lun encouraged the young nursing trainees of the institute to work hard and be dedicated.
He expounded on the importance of the nursing profession, their role in the society and the vast scope they have throughout the state and country.
Keynote speaker Dr.Chubakumzuk Longchar, administrator NMHRC, spoke on the theme “Nursing: The balance of mind, body and spirit.” Distinguished guests, P. Leonard Aier, principal City Law College, L.Limaienla Aier, secretary general NEIMUN, also exhorted the students.
Around 100 students pursuing nursing courses in A.M.I. participated in the function.
