Neingulie Memorial High School celebrated parents’ day in which toppers of the school at the recent HSLC examination were felicitated.
After giving away prizes and awards to the toppers, chief guest, Geoffrey Yaden, Editor Nagaland Post congratulated them including the school and parents. On the occasion of Parents Day, the chief guest urged upon parents to play their role and not to expect teachers to bring up children. He said parents should also be teachers at home and teachers should be like parents to children in schools. The symbiotic relationship between teachers and parents is crucial for mental, physical and spiritual development of the child, he said.
Dwelling on the significance of the day, the ninth of June, the 54th death anniversary of late Neingulie, the chief guest opined that the school was started as a mission to provide affordable education for the less privileged and not as a commercial venture. He said some schools have turned totally business by charging sky high fees on students.
In this, he said Neingulie Memorial school has been doing yeoman service and yet charging affordable as compared to other schools. He urged upon the school authorities not to rest on the achievements but to strive for higher levels by forging a close knit cooperative alliance between teachers and parents.
He said when people talk of need for good leaders, it meant that society realises the need for leaders of integrity and courage to stem the rot brought about by rampant corruption. Geoffrey Yaden said good leaders don’t fall from the sky nor sprout from any place. He said good leaders of substance are nurtured by parents and inspired by good teachers , which is what quality education is all about.
Earlier headmaster of the school Mujibur Rehman gave the welcome address and also spoke a few words of greeting on behalf of school chairman Neisatuo Keditsu. The felicitation programme was conducted by Lezo Keditsu administrator of the school. Highlights of the programme included song and dance, skit, traditional show etc.
