Book on microbial resources released

The Global Open University Nagaland (TGOUN) Dimapur organized a launching function of Professor N. Irabanta Singh’s edited book on “Microbial resources of Indo-Myanmar (Burma) hotspot region” here on Monday at the conference hall of department of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, TGOUN, Dimapur.
The launching programme was graced by chancellor, TGOUN, T. N. Mannen IAS (Retd) as the chief guest and registrar-cum-director, TGOUN, Dr. Imotemsu Ao as the guest of honour.
Speaking at the launching programme, T.N.Mannen said that the book of professor Singh appeared to be knowledgeable especially relevant to the hotspot area of Northeast. 
While acknowledging professor N. Irabanta Singh, T.N.Mannen disclosed that microbial resource book has not yet been launched in the region, thereby Nagaland, Mizoram etc has been lagging behind.
T.N.Mannen said that it was an eye opener to sustain the collapsing kind of development and was suitable for balancing exploitations of the natural resources. Manen said that the need of the hour was to preserve nature for the people of the stated which had been degraded so far. 
Briefing about the book, professor N.Irabanta Singh mentioned that Indo-Myanmar biodiversity hotspot was centered on the Indo-Chinese Peninsula and comprised of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, plus parts of Southern China and North Eastern India (Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland and South Assam)
He maintained that as per available record, out of 25 biodiversity hotspot regions of the world, Indo-Burma region occupied 19th position with 2.3% of global endemic plants and 0.9 % of global endemic vertebrates. 
According to available information on non vascular plants, Dr. Singh said that invertebrates and fungi was generally inadequate for conservation and evaluation.
He maintained that, present volume, “Microbial resources of Indo-Myanmar hotspot region”, conservation and sustainable development with special reference to North East India encompasses a wide range of topics on microbial resources of the hotspot region. He also mentioned that wide diversity of topics included should make the volume an excellent reference for all those concerned with microbial resources and its sustainable economic development for the North East India.  
Short speeches were delivered by vice chancellor, TGOUN Dimapur, Dr.H.N. Dutta and registrar-cum-director, TGOUN Dimapur, Dr.Imotemsu Ao.
Earlier, the critics of the book were briefed by AAO-111, TGOUN Dimapur, Ruth Difusa and vote of thanks was proposed by information executive, TGOUN Dimapur, Mhalo Ezung.
