Human animal (wildlife) conflict (HAC) mitigation awareness campaign program was organised by forest department on June 19 at the council hall of Tening village, Peren district.
A press note by chief wildlife warden Nagaland, Satya Prakash Tripathi stated that retired PCCF & principal secretary (Forest) and chief guest of the programme, D. K. Zeliang, deliberated on constitutional provision of Article 371(A) in the matter of land and its resources for the people of the state.
He emphasized on the need for declaration of community conservation areas to community reserves and its funding on the pattern of government owned protected areas.
Zeliang said that purchased land owned by the government should be converted into protected areas, sanctuaries for integrated development of wildlife habitats. He also appealed to the villagers to ban fishing, using poison and hunting.
Additional deputy commissioner, Tening and guest of honour, Holohon Yepthomi, stated that the communities have more to play for conservation of forest resources and appealed for conservation of forest and wildlife.
In his keynote address, Satya Prakash Tripathi highlighted the policies of the state government and the MoEF & CC, government of India for addressing the problem. The chairmen/members made a resolution to ban fishing and hunting in their respective areas.
Wildlife warden, Dimapur, K. Caroline Angami welcomed the participants, Heuneilung, DCF, Intanki National Park, gave a brief introduction and invocation prayer was said by Kitanvwi Chewang E.S. LBA (N). Nangkamak Pame sang a theme song on the Intanki National Park while the programme was chaired by Sentitula, DFO, Peren and Y. M. Jami, conservator of Forests (NTC), Mokokchung and director, Intanki National Park, Dimapur, proposed vote of thanks.
Around 250 persons, officers from the district administration, Agri and allied departments, chairmen/members of village councils of villages affected with Human- Animal conflict from Peren district attended the programme sponsored by the MoEF&CC, government of India, New Delhi.
