
World Population Day 2017 was observed on Tuesday in Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha and Phek under the theme “New Wave New Believe-Family Development through complete Responsibility.”
In Dimapur, the state level world population day was observed at Chapel Hall, District Hospital Dimapur organised by State Health Society along with Dimapur District Health Society.
Speaking as the chief guest, deputy commissioner Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome, said that population regulation was a matter that concerned not only the health department but also every department and every individual.
He said it was critical for a country like India and especially in Nagaland to achieve its demographic transition’s target–from high birth rate to low birth rate–as the state was economically not capacitated to absorb the pressure of population explosion.
Yhome further stated that the target to lower TFR could be achieved through inter-departmental and inter-sectoral cooperation and assistance.
SPO RCH, Dr. Bendangla also stated that the world population day was observed to manage population and to empower women to take better care of themselves and her family and also to empower the youth to be responsible.
The programme was chaired by chief medical officer Dimapur, Dr. K. Vikato Kinimi; the keynote address was delivered by DPO RCH/UIP, Dr. Lanuakum while a short speech was also delivered by director, H&FW, Dr. M.A. Wati and vote of thanks was delivered by pathologist, District Hospital Dimapur, Dr. Temsu. Earlier, invocation prayer was led by Rev, Y. Thong, Chaplain, DH Chapel. Officials from Directorate of Health & FW, CMOs office, staff under medical superintendent, allied departments and students of school of nursing, representatives from Pastors’ Association, Women Hoho, private hospitals and NGOs attended the programme.
KOHIMA: World population day was observed in Kohima on Tusday at CMO’s conference hall, organized by office of the chief medical officer along with District Health Society, department of Health & Family Welfare, NHM.
The programme was chaired by DPM, Kevin. K. Zinyu while the technical session was conducted by DPO (RCH-UIP), Dr. Avile Zao where she gave a presentation on “World Population Day & Population Stabilization Fortnight” from July 11-24. This fortnight would be called as “Family Health Mela”. She informed that advocacy and awareness campaigns would be carried out in all the blocks and villages under Kohima district.
Dr. Avile said during the on-going advocacy, following messages should reach the people as part of awareness generation: delaying age at marriage, healthy spacing at birth, post partum family planning, male participation in family planning, post abortion family planning.
It was informed that IEC activities of interpersonal communication – focus group discussion would be carried out in selected health units to observe population fortnight as basket of family planning services including distribution of pamphlets, leaflets and putting up of banners and posters at prominent places in line with new family planning media campaign.
WOKHA: Health & Family Welfare Department Wokha launched the family planning health mela fortnight on Tuesday at Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital, Wokha.
The programme was chaired by CMO, Dr. Enrithung while the keynote address was given by District Hospital Wokha gynecologist, Dr. Nounenuo Terhase and DPM (NHM), Matsung spoke on the theme “New Wave New Believe-Family Development through complete Responsibility.”
He also presented the district micro plan for world population day and urged the block asha co-ordinators to sensitize the ASHAs for mobilization during the health mela fortnight. The family health mela fortnight would continue till July 24 at fifteen health units in the district. Later, vote of thanks was delivered by Mhonbeni Ezung media officer, NHM.
PHEK: District Health Society Phek observed world population day on Tuesday at MS conference hall District Hospital Phek.
Resource person, District Hospital Phek, gynaecologist, Dr. Azo Louis spoke on “new wave new believe-family development through complete responsibility”.
He exhorted the participants saying, in order to have good quality of life one needed to be rationally responsible, proactive and plans one’s own family accordingly, taking into account economic stability and be aware of things happening around in the society.
Dr. Azo also said as parents one should plan a family size so that they could give good quality of life to the offspring rather than focusing on the quantity of children.
DPO RCH and UIP Phek, Dr. Kolhitso Khalo highlighted the participants on the different activities to be done during Population Stabilization Fortnight from July 11-24. He also presented the different family planning methods which would be available at all health units free of cost.
The programme chaired by District Hospital Phek, paediatrician, Dr. Wethselo T. Mero was attended by doctors, nurses and staffs of MS and CMO Phek.
