National De-worming Day phase-II was launched in Kiphire and Tuensang districts on August 10 wherein children between the age of 1 to 19 was de-wormed with administration of albendazole chewable tablets in government and private schools and Anganwadi centres.
In Kiphire, NDD was launched at Good Shepherd High School, Kiphire premises wherein district programme officer (RCH/UIP), Dr. Rebecca Y Sema gave an overview of the programme to the students. She said worm infestation adversely affects not only physical health but mental development as well.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Leshikho and a special number was sung by class 9 students. Principal, GSHS, Kiphire, T.V Thomas heartily welcomed the medical team to his school in his welcome address and the benediction was pronounced by Kakiho.
The students of Good Shepherd High School was distributed an albendazole tablet each.
Meanwhile, a one day training for the chief medical office staff (NHM) , Kiphire was organised on August 8 on account of national de-worming day with Dr. Rebecca Y Sema, as the resource person.
Dr Rebecca sensitized the participants on the importance of deworming and the correct dosages to be given out to children. Dr. Tinurenla, Dy.CMO delivered a welcome address and urged the members to render their support for successful implementation of the programme. The national deworming day will be followed by a mop-up day on August 17, in order to cover children who might be left out during the administration to ensure maximum coverage.
TUENSANG: District Health Society (DHS) Tuensang launched the second round of ‘National Deworming Day’ (NDD) on August 10, at Hakushang School Tuensang town. On the first day, around 2,000 children were being given NDD in 10 Schools of Tuensang Town.
The activities will be carried out in all the Schools of eight blocks under Tuensang District till August 17, by the health workers and the ASHAs.
