Khukhu festival for girl child celebrated in Porba village

Porba village celebrated Khukhu festival on August 14, with secretary, Nagaland State Social Welfare Board (NSSWB), mission director, State Resource Centre for Women, Daisy Mezhur, as the special guest and president, Chakhesang Women Welfare Society (CWWS) Vechisalu Nukhu, as guest of honour. 
While stressing on giving special attention and care to the girl child, Daisy Mezhur also emphasised on giving proper education and opportunity to girl child. When a girl child is properly taken care, she will take care of the family and the world when she grows up, said Daisy. While congratulating the Porbami for preserving and upholding the traditional values by showing love and respect to the girls, a souvenir was released by Vechisalu Nukhu. 
Village council chairman, Porba village, Shekhozo Thuluo shared the significance of Khukhu festival which was a special day for girls when the parents, kith and kin offered special and nutritious food to girls.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Veshetsolu Chiero, invocation was pronounced by pastor, BCP Huvevo Sakhamo and a benediction by catechist, St. Joseph Church Porba, Rudaveyi.
The highlight of the programme included folk tune presented by Basapuh khel, indigenous duet by Shenietalu and Mulusalu. Traditional games like ‘Saco Müce’ and ‘Tacho züh’ were presented by Ceipi and Kusomi Khel.
