A book titled “Wounded Tiger: The Papers of Khodao Yanthan”—a collection of stories and letters by late Khodao Yanthan—with introduction and epilogue by Fr. Abraham Lotha was launched on Friday at Elim Hall, Dimapur Ao Baptist Arogo (DABA). Published by Heritage Publishing House, the book was released by Controller of Examinations, Nagaland University, Dr. Abemo Lotha.
Releasing the book, Dr. Abemo said the good deeds and sacrifices of late Khodao Yanthan have come more alive with the launch of the book. He hoped that the book would inspire and enlighten many Nagas, especially the younger generation.
In a brief address, Fr. Abraham Lotha said he decided to compile the stories and letters of late Khodao Yanthan when he met the latter in London few years back.
He described late Khodao as one of the foundational characters for Naga identity and struggle, and that it was important for the present generation to engage with the roots.
He then quoted one of Khodao’s writings, “It is not the name (of factions) that will bring us independence, but it is our togetherness”.
Fr. Abraham said the book was a collection of stories and letters by late Khodao Yanthan, a freedom fighter who left an exemplary legacy of humility and sacrifice. He added that the book unfurls the focus and willingness late Khodao had for the greater good of Nagaland and amplifies his statesmanship.
It may be noted that Khadao Yanthan (1923-2010) was one of the first Naga National Council (NNC) leaders to start the Naga National movement in the 1950s. He was among the first group of leaders who fled Nagaland in the late 1950s and landed in England via then East Pakistan. He worked in the BBC (1971 to 1988) and also served in World War II as quartermaster of the labour corps in Myanmar till 1944 and received the “Burma Star” award from the British government. Yanthan took part in the Naga Plebiscite conducted by NNC president, A.Z. Phizo in 1951and was the vice-president of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) till his last breath.
The book contains four parts which cover “introduction and experiences”, “heart of the patriot”, “arrival to London” and various interviews. Many rare photographs from 1947 till his death have also been included. The book has been meticulously researched and compiled in its originality and entirety.
Earlier, Dr. Lanusenla Tzudir, Heritage Publishing House led the programme. Family members of Khodao Yanthan, people from different organisations were present at the launch.
