Riverbed pathway as alternate route to commute

After the collapse of temporary bamboo bridge twice over Diphu river between Nihoto village and Hollohon village, which was built to connect Niuland and Kuhuboto with Dimapur, the Nihoto Village Council (NVC) has taken up an initiative by making a pathway on the riverbed with sand gravel to help vehicles cross the river.
Padumpukhuri village GB, K Ahovi Sema, who also hails from Nihoto village, told Nagaland Post that the initiative was taken up to help the people affected by the collapse of RCC Steel Girder Bridge over Chathe river near CIHSR (Referral Hospital) Dimapur.
Ahovi who was present at the site, said that the process of filling up sand gravel was done by deploying two JCB backhoe loaders and three dumper trucks for about a week. A portion of riverbed has been raised (40 ft width and 300 ft length) with sand gravel for smooth passage of vehicles.
Currently only heavy vehicles could cross the river, he said, adding that if nature does not play a spoilsport, even light vehicles would be able to ply within three-four days.
Ahovi recalled that the state chief minister, while inspecting the then newly built bamboo bridge last month, had suggested widening of both the entry points for convenience of light vehicles. However, after a week time, the bridge collapsed making it even difficult for people to cross.
He said the village council was not only filling up the riverbed but have been maintaining the entire stretch of road along the villages for the convenience of the commuters.
Meanwhile, Ahovi lauded Nihoto village head GB, Dr. Nihoto P Chishi, for taking up initiative and also the neighbouring villages for extending support and cooperation.
