
Newly constructed Naga Traditional “morung” – “Shutha Oungching Thaunyujong Chuchong Pang” – constructed by Chuchong Khel was inaugurated on Thursday at Yongphang village.
Speaking as the chief guest, Village Development Board (VSB) secretary Yongphang village, Y. Nyampong Phom, said Naga traditional “morung” was one of the important institutions in Naga society where collective decision and opinion on the activities of the particular village are discussed.
He said in the past the youths of the village were taught about the unique indigenous identity, culture, tradition and custom so that it was preserved and promoted for the betterment of the society.
Nyampong also lauded the citizens of the village for completing the “morung” in time and said it shows the cooperation, unity and team work while implementing the developmental activities in the village. He also called upon to the villagers to shed malicious thoughts and work together for the betterment of the village.
Earlier, the chief guest also unveiled the monolith of the newly constructed “morung”.
Others who spoke on the occasion include, GB, T. Phakmei Phom, Y Yongphang village council Chairman, . Kahlak Phom, head barick, C.Yingpa Phom and N. Hamshak Phom.
Delegates from neighboring villages and special invitees from Konyak community attended the programme.
The programme was chaired by K.Thenyei Phom, Bible reading and prayer was said by Yongphang Baptist Church Pastor, P.Shonyei Phom, special song was presented by P.Lungshing and friends while seeking of blessing for the new “morung” were said byY. Chahang Phom.
Other highlights of the programme include folk dances by Yangnyu Jaitok group and Shanglem Shepa cultural troupes.
