Working Committee (WC) of the six Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs), returned to Dimapur after signing an agreement with the Government of India on Friday last.
The Working Committee delegation arrived at Dimapur airport on Sunday afternoon.
The Working Committee led by its convener, N. Kitovi Zhimomi and co-conveners– FGN kedallo, Zhopra Vero; NNC (parent body) secretary, V. Nagi; NPGN/NNC (NA) ato kilonser, Hozheto; NSCN (R) president, Wangtin Naga; NNC/GDRN (NA) president, Kiumukam Yimchungru, were accorded a warm reception at Dimapur airport by GBs, members of various Naga tribal hohos, NGOs, NNPGs functionaries and others.
Nagaland Post had on November 18, first reported about the signing of the agreement between Government of India’s Interlocutor for Naga Talks, RN Ravi and the Working Committee on November 17 at New Delhi.
Sources privy to talks informed Nagaland Post said that the Centre had “recognised the political and historical rights of the Nagas to self determine their future in consonance with their distinct identity”.
“God is with the Naga people” said N. Kitovi Zhimomi while addressing hundreds who had gone to welcome the WC at Dimapur airport Sunday. He thanked the Nagas for their continuous prayer that has resulted in fruitful outcome of the talks with the government of India.
Kitovi said talks were held on the condition that the historical and political rights of the Nagas should be first recognised and that the Naga people should have the right to self-determine their future consonance with their unique identity.
The WC Convenor also said that the Centre had positively responded to the desire of the Naga people by assuring the WC that the Nagas would not be deprived off their rights and the political and historical rights of Nagas would be recognised.
Further, Kitovi urged upon all to continually pray and work together in order to achieve the long cherished goal of the Nagas.
The WC was formed after Naga people and leaders desired that all other NPGs should also be involved for an inclusive and conclusive solution.
The government of India’s Interlocutor to the Naga peace talks R.N. Ravi had a series of consultative meetings with various NPGs, tribal hohos, NGOs and civil society groups during the recent years in order to evolve a broad-based agreement.
It was also learnt that the agreement signed between the government of India’s Interlocutor and the Working Committee on November 17 , is a prelude to subsequent talks between the two sides to arrive at an agreement.
It may also be recalled that the government of India’s Interlocutor R.N.Ravi had told Nagaland Post during an exclusive interview, that the Naga political issue involved Nagas and so the political issue would also involve all Nagas and not one or two factions.
He also made it clear that solution and constitutional election were two separate issues which should not be mixed together.
