Officials of the directorate of Prisons on Monday bade farewell to its Director General of Police (DGP), Rupin Sharma.
It may be mentioned that Rupin Sharma has been given the charge as officiating DGP, Nagaland.
In a brief but glowing farewell function held at the directorate of Prison Monday afternoon, Sharma thanked all the officers and staffs for their unwavering support during his tenure as DG prison.
He credited all his achievements to the officers and staffs of the directorate. Sharma said he had intended to start driving lessons for the inmates of Central jail Dimapur with the help of the Assam Rifles. Since it could not be materialized, he said training will be imparted with the help of Nagaland Police personnel.
He also encouraged the inmates to take the help of the legal aid services. Sharma also thanked NSLSA, SCERT, DoSE and Art and Culture Dimapur for contributing books for the inmates, which would be distributed to all the prisons in the state.
Describing Sharma as a humble officer, DIG Prison L. Thungdemo Lotha said that the directorate was fortunate to have an efficient and experienced officer like Sharma.
He also cited few initiatives that Sharma had streamlined– TOG appointments, introducing prisoners welfare schemes and canteen.
NSLSA member secretary, Nino Iralu in her brief address described Rupin Sharma as a noble man, saying “wherever he goes, he initiates noble ventures.”
Iralu acknowledged the outgoing officer for all his sincere efforts initiated to reform the life of the jail inmates and was optimistic that Sharma, as DGP Nagaland, would make the special juvenile police unit in all the districts more effective. SCERT official, Catholic Religion of India also spoke at the programme.
The Kohima district jail inmates presented special song. Various sections of the directorate also presented gifts to the outgoing officer.
