
Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) celebrated an Advent Christmas with all the colonies, wards and communities residing in Dimapur city at Clock Tower Sunday night.
Bringing the Christmas message, Kingdom Culture Church pastor Visasier Kevichü said, Christmas was not only for Christians but it was for everyone irrespective of caste, culture, race, creed or class.
Lamenting on the trend of people going around asking for donations during Christmas time, Visasier said, “We, especially Christians, should not make Christmas a time of great sorrow for people from other communities by imposing compulsory donations, rather it should be a time for us to donate and make it a season of celebration which everyone would wait eagerly.”
He said that the whole meaning of Christmas was peace and that the real meaning of peace was wholeness in every area including character, environment, social live, behaviour etc.
Lauding the efforts made by DMC in making Dimapur a better place, he said all these efforts conform to the meaning behind Christ’s birth.
Visasier concluded by urging everyone in gathered at the event to participate in building up the city and eventually fulfil the mission of Jesus Christ.
Delivering the keynote address, DMC administrator, Moa Sangtam thank the people for volunteering in the first phase of ‘A Better Dimapur’ project.
He acknowledged the voluntary works rendered by different teams including, Act of Kindness, Team Clean Dimapur, Team Green Dimapur, The Dismantling Team, Office of the Chief Medical Officer Dimapur for being part of ‘A Better Dimapur’ project phase I.
He also highlighted the various activities taken up by DMC under the project including ‘The Cleanest Colony in Dimapur and Dor-to-Door waste collection’ etc.
Moa also informed that in the coming year DMC would be taking up various projects like ‘Dustbin Free Zone and Solar Project’ besides a few others with would be announced soon.
In the first phase of ‘The Cleanest Colony in Dimapur’ competition, Reverbelt Colony (Ward No 11) bagged the first prize, they received a cash prize of Rs One Lakh. Kevijau Colony (Ward No 16) and Lengrijan Colony (Ward No 12) were placed in the first and second positions respectively, while Island Colony (Ward No 10) and Niu Colony (Ward No 22) were given consolatory prizes.
During the first session of the programme Non-Governmental Organization including Naga Council Dimapur, Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation, Naga Women Hoho and Gaon Buras’ Union had a Christmas carol competition wherein Naga Women Hoho emerged as the winner.
The choral completion for various churches and institutions was held and the participants included Sangtam Baptist Church Dimapur, Lotha Baptist Church Dimapur, Town Baptist Church Dimapur, Dimapur Ao Baptist Church, St. Paul Chatholic Church- Burma Camp, Police Baptist Church Dimapur, Bethesda Higher Secondary School Dimapur, Golden Crown Theological College Nagarjan, Baptist Revival Church Nagarjan and Maple Tree School.
Maple Tree School emerged as the winners of the choral competition while St. Paul Catholic Church and Town Baptist Church were placed in the first and second runners-up positions respectively.
A flash mob led by Act of Kindness and various other groups presented a Christmas Medley.
Following the formal sessions, a musical extravaganza was held where artistes including, Aloto, Abel Asumi, Imnasenla, Thunglamo, Abdor Mech, Toshimoa, Meribeni Patton, Widier Zeliang and Lily Kithan.
The event was attended by a few thousand people and various stalls were also opened at the venue along the Circular Road towards Lakeview Colony.
