People want change in Nagaland: Therie

December 19, 2017 | by admin

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president, K. Therie was confident that the people of Nagaland would vote out the NPF-led DAN government in the ensuing State Assembly election scheduled early next year. He said there was no reason why people would like to suffer by giving them another five years, adding, “People are going to change and will change since they all want change”.
Speaking at the Dimapur District Congress Committee’s (DDCC) pre-Christmas celebrations at Congress Bhavan here on Monday, Therie stated that Election Commission of India (ECI) had already declared that Assembly elections would be held as per schedule in Nagaland.
“ECI is likely to announce the schedule before Christmas and complete the process before February 25,” he added, pointing out that, as per rule, there must be a new Assembly by March 13, 2018.
Attacking the ruling government, Therie recalled that the state legislative assembly, which represented the society, had assembled for 15 minutes, but members had nothing to say for the people. He added that although all 60 members belonged to the treasury bench, they lacked harmony and were divided, targeting each other.
Therie also attacked BJP saying its worshipped Hindutva leaders who destroyed churches and forcefully converted Christians and Muslims in the name of ghar-wapsi, stopped foreign contributions to missionary schools, hospitals and other charity works and also stopped scholarships for theological students. He accused the 60 MLAs of “worshipping them in silence”, which was “discrimination and ill-will”.
He said that although BJP claimed to work for development, there were no funds to even sustain roads and bridges and departments always reply “there is no fund”. He alleged that the budget of Rs 14,500 crore, including CSS schemes which were outside the budget, vanished into thin air.
Meanwhile, welcoming the election of Rahul Gandhi as president of Indian National Congress, Therie said he believed that this was godsend and that there was new hope.
He also called upon the gathering to reach every house with the message of ensuring a God-fearing and clean government that would work for the welfare of the people.
Greetings messages during the pre-Christmas celebration were also delivered by Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) president, T. Bangerloba Ao, and members of Dimapur Sadar GBs Union– MY Ngullie and Dimapur Urban Colony Chairmen Federation– Z. Kapfo.
The highlight of the programme was a special presentation by Moajungla Jamir and Tekhengolo-ü-Kapfo and thereafter a message was delivered by Thahekhu Baptist Church pastor, Tovishe Achumi.
While the programme was chaired by DMCC president Sentila, welcome address was delivered by DDCC president, A. Bendangyanger Jamir. Later, vote of thanks was delivered by DDCC working president.
The programme was followed with cutting of a cake and a pre-Christmas feast.
